In this work, Peire makes a gradual transition from the figurative to the abstract. The delicately rendered figure in the third vertical strip on the left-hand side shows the last reminiscence of the human shape. The title ‘Manolete’ perhaps refers to the famous Spanish bullfighter who died in tragic circumstances. This could explain the dramatic colour combination in the work.
