"Expression de plénitude dans la tendresse. Compénétration d'espace négatif dans le temps, quatrième dimension. Compénétration d'espace et de durée. Totalisation d'espace-durée." (Expression of plenitude in tenderness. Penetration of negative space in time, fourth dimension. Penetration of space and time. Totality of space-time.) Victor Servranckx on Opus 1—1921.

The Flemish artist Servranckx sculpted this bronze sculpture from the Mu.ZEE collection in his geometric-abstract period (1921—1924). In this work, he plays with the opposition between positive and negative space by way of filling in and taking away in bronze. This provides the sculpture with a certain rhythm, through which, according to Servranckx, Opus 1—1921 suggests a rotating movement. The temporality of the movement and the materiality of the bronze thus create an interpenetration of time and space.
